Research Data Alliance coming to Australia

Categorised: COLLABORATE, News, Newsletter

For the first time, a Research Data Alliance (RDA) Plenary will be held in Australia - the 15th RDA Plenary Meeting will take place in Melbourne from 18 to 20 March 2020 in conjunction with CSIRO’s C3DIS. The Plenary will be hosted by CSIRO and supported by the ARDC and the RDA.

The Plenary Meeting in Melbourne offers a unique opportunity for the Australian and regional community to influence and drive the development of solutions to data problems. Participants will be able to present topics and issues to a large group of international experts to find collaborators to work on solving data problems of interest to the Australian community.

Once at the Plenary, you can become involved in one of the many RDA Working and Interest Groups that solve and shape the recommendations and outputs developed. For example, there are at least 3 Australian cases of CoreTrustSeal certification with more underway, some facilitated through the ARDC Community of Practice on Trusted Data Repositories. There are more than 10 different Australian implementations and repurposings of the 23 Things for Research Data program.

You will have access to an extraordinary network of international colleagues and organisations with a broad set of experiences, perspectives, practices, and intellectual frameworks relevant to data-driven innovation at the Plenary. Not to mention, you have the opportunity to engage with those in your field and those in different professions to develop and implement data-sharing infrastructure solutions that could potentially accelerate interactivity and innovation among all disciplines and industries worldwide.

Hilary Hanahoe, the Secretary General of the RDA visited Australia last month to raise awareness about the RDA and the 15th Plenary Meeting. Hilary had meet and greet opportunities across Australia, in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and a webinar for those who were unable to attend any of the face to face meetings. Read Hilary’s blog about her trip to Australia, watch the webinar and look through her presentation slides

We encourage the Australian and regional data communities to join us in Melbourne in March 2020!
