We are delighted to announce that after a comprehensive recruitment process we have appointed Mr Benedict (Ben) Chiu to the position of Director, Services.

Ben will be responsible for the management of the ARDC Services business unit and the strategic direction and implementation of the ARDC’s data infrastructure and compute agenda. The role includes providing senior leadership to the ARDC Core Services team, responsible for the Nectar Research Cloud, and the ARDC National Information Infrastructure team, responsible for persistent identifiers, Research Data Australia and Research Vocabularies Australia.

Ben is a data and digital-focused, senior technology leader with well-established networks across public, private and for-purpose sectors, and brings a forward-looking focus in strategically aligning technology to deliver organisational outcomes. He’s highly passionate about the opportunities that the continued growth of the technology sector brings, and is keen to drive innovation to create new openings in interdisciplinary research through ARDC services.

Ben will be joining the ARDC from the Australian Conservation Foundation where for the last three years he has been the Head of Data & Technology (CIO). Ben is also a member of the CSIRO Data61’s National Artificial Intelligence Centre Think Tanks, with a focus on creating and embedding responsible AI principles and practices, to unlock the opportunities offered by AI for the benefit of all Australians.

We look forward to welcoming Ben in early August and he will be located at the University of Melbourne along with the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud team.
