Resources for Bushfire Research
Access datasets, tools and other resources created or enhanced through the ARDC’s Bushfire Data Challenges program for bushfire-related research, development, planning and response in Australia.
Those involved in bushfire-related research, development, planning and response, including:
- higher-degree researchers (HDRs) and PhD candidates
- early-/mid- career researchers (EMCRs)
- senior researchers
- infrastructure providers (including research facilities)
- data custodians and managers
- government
By the end of reading this resource, you’ll be able to:
- recognise the range of datasets, tools and other resources the ARDC and partners have made available for bushfire-related research, development, planning and response in Australia
- access those resources
- recognise institutions, government agencies and organisations that offer those resources.
Data-informed decision making is crucial to protecting Australia’s environment and communities from bushfires, enhancing our ability to respond effectively to them, and preparing for future recovery efforts. Sharing data across organisations and borders was emphasised by the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements, which was established in response to the extreme bushfire season of 2019–20.
To that end, the ARDC and partners from research, government and industry identified digital infrastructure solutions for bushfire-related research, development, planning and response, specifically for:
- fuel data
- health data
- ecological data
- data governance
- a bushfire data commons.
These solutions have now culminated in a wide range of datasets, tools and platforms, and other resources, ready to be used by the bushfire community. Find a list of the resources below and use them today. More resources will be available in due course.
These resources were developed through our Bushfire Data Challenges program, which forms part of our Translational Research Data Challenges.
