Mid-Point Co-Design for HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons Focus Areas
About the 2026 mid-point co-design process
In 2024 the ARDC kicked-off 5 focus areas for the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons (RDC). As we reach the mid-point of the 4-year co-investment partnerships, we are conducting a co-design process. The mid-point co-design process involves seeking input about the planned project activities in the remaining years of the focus areas.
The 5 focus areas are:
- Language Data Commons of Australia
- Australian Internet Observatory
- Improving Indigenous Research Capabilities
- Social Science Research Infrastructure Network
- Australian Creative Histories and Futures
Each focus area is different and will use the mid-point co-design to seek input on a topic that is relevant to the planned activities.
The sixth focus area of the HASS and Indigenous RDC, Connections, is not part of this process. The main activities of Connections include the ARDC Community Data Lab and the Summer School.
How do I get involved?
In 2026, the focus areas will each provide an update on their progress to date and seek written feedback on a topic in response to questions in a “2026 Mid-Point Co-Design Overview” document.
There will be a 4-6 week window in which you can provide input as part of the process.
The focus areas will then publish a written response to the feedback. This document will be shared via email to those who have registered their interest in the HASS and Indigenous RDC.
The details of the 2026 mid-point co-design process for each project, including the input window timing, will be added to this page and promoted through the HASS and Indigenous RDC register of interest.
How to provide feedback to each Focus Area through Co-Design
Once the co-design has begun for a focus area, we invite you to send your feedback in response to the questions in a project’s “2026 Mid-Point Co-Design Overview” by the relevant due date to the ARDC HASS and Indigenous RDC team via [email protected]
Language Data Commons of Australia (LDaCA)
LDaCA is making nationally significant language data accessible for research by universities and communities alike through interoperable repositories, advanced analytic tools and Indigenous-led governance.
LDaCA is seeking feedback to strengthen alignment between its technical architecture and the needs of its user communities.
LDaCA is open for feedback from 16 April 2026 to 29 May 2026.
To provide your feedback on LDaCA, please follow these steps:
- Read about the input the project is seeking and the specific questions in this document: the LDaCA 2026 Mid-Point Co-Design Overview [pdf]
- Watch the video from the focus area on what they’ve achieved so far, and what they plan to do: Watch the LDaCA video via YouTube
- Write a response to the specific questions in the “LDaCA 2026 Mid-Project Co-Design Overview” either via the LDaCA Mid-Point Co-Design Survey or via email using this template [doc] and emailing via [email protected]
- Submit your survey or feedback by 29 May 2026.

Australian Internet Observatory (AIO)
AIO is providing digital observability for social research through innovative data collection and analysis tools, methods and workflows.
AIO is seeking input from the broader research community on digital platform research methodologies and on the effective use of the AIO data donation tools and capabilities.
Feedback is sought from researchers across HASS, as well as health, environmental science, information and communication technology and other disciplines; researchers and analysts in civil society, government and industry; NRI and research support staff.
Insights from this process will inform future development of the AIO data donation tools and capabilities.
AIO is open for feedback from 1 May 2026 to 31 May 2026.
To provide your feedback on AIO, please follow these steps:
- Read about the input the project is seeking and the specific questions in this document: the AIO Mid-Point Co-Design Overview [pdf]
- Watch the video from the focus area on what they’ve achieved so far, and what they plan to do: Watch the AIO video via YouTube
- Write a response to the specific questions in the “AIO 2026 Mid-Project Co-Design Overview” either via the AIO Mid-Point Co-Design Survey or via email using this template [doc] and emailing via [email protected]
- Submit your survey or feedback by 31 May 2026.
