The Opportunity

This role is part of the Marketing and Communications team within the ARDC Outreach group. Our digital content designer is responsible for creating, updating and reviewing content for the web and other online channels. Working as part of the ARDC communications and marketing team, you’ll write high-quality content that meets user needs and supports the implementation of the ARDC Content Strategy. You will manage the review and updating of content regularly on the website. You’ll also propose and manage or deliver other content solutions where appropriate, including video, interactive tools, infographics and forms as required. The successful applicant will be comfortable taking direction, working independently, building positive relationships with stakeholders and translating complex information into simple and engaging content.

You’ll be responsible for maintaining the defined structure of the ARDC website so that our website visitors see useful, up-to-date content and find what they are looking for. Our ideal candidate has a strong background in writing, preferably science communication, understands how users engage with online content and has an understanding of SEO and best practices for writing for the web. You’ll be comfortable working with specialists from other business areas, including internal stakeholders, subject matter experts, and marketing, communication and digital agencies. Most of all, we’re looking for someone who is organised, methodical, can deliver high-quality work to tight timelines, can plan ahead to maintain website content regularly and enjoys working in a complex organisation and environment.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Implement and update the content management plan for the website to keep content up to date, working within appropriate management processes, standards and associated technical documentation as required.
  • Undertake content planning, research and development, including briefing, writing, sourcing, reviewing and coordinating all new content to keep key channels up to date.
  • Develop content in consultation with the Senior Science Communicator, team strategy and and best-practice guidelines, including interviewing stakeholders, fact checking content and identifying and securing all necessary internal and external approvals.
  • Write, edit, review and publish high-quality written content for website, social media and newsletters in line with editorial and brand style guides
  • Work closely with business areas and subject matter experts located around Australia to deliver stakeholder-centred content.
  • Manage the review, editing and approval process for publishing content produced by content publishers across the organisation.

About You

  • Undergraduate or honours qualification in communication, journalism, writing or a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing content, including an aptitude for translating jargon-heavy and complex information into simple, usable language.
  • Great attention to detail, including an ability to check content for style, sense and SEO optimisation.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, including an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate clearly with subject matter experts, technical staff and internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Familiarity with systems such as WordPress, SEO Yoast, Google Analytics, Hootsuite, accessibility standards, basic HTML and digital best practice.
  • Broad knowledge of digital marketing and social media content, including targeted content.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to June 2023 at HEW Level 7.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $90,538 - $98,719 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $105,9289 - $115,501 per annum.
