Registrations are now open for the 2nd Humanities, Arts and Culture Data Summit and 3rdInternational DARIAH Beyond Europe workshop to be held on 27-29 March at the National Library of Australia, Canberra. The Australian Academy of the Humanities, the European Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities initiative (DARIAH) and the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) are delighted to join forces to co-organise these events.

This special event is an Australian-European knowledge exchange, exploring new horizons for data-driven humanities and arts research, digital cultural collections and research infrastructure. The event is open to all, providing a unique opportunity for researchers, data experts, national cultural and collecting institutions and government departments and agencies to advance their understanding of local and international developments and facilitate international connections.

“Events such as this help us inform collective efforts to broadly promote the platforms and investment needed to digitally preserve and share Australia’s vast social and cultural data,” said Academy President, Professor Joy Damousi FASSA FAHA.

Ian Duncan, Acting Executive Director of the Australian Research Data Commons said, “We are very excited to be part of this Summit and foster borderless research. It is a great opportunity for Australian researchers in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences to leverage the experience of our European colleagues and explore new horizons for data driven humanities and arts research and digital research infrastructure.”

Day one of the program explores new horizons for policy, research and infrastructure and builds on the issues explored in the inaugural Humanities, Arts and Culture Summit. Days two and three present a series of international exchange workshops addressing infrastructural challenges, geohumanities and film, media and gaming.

This is the third international DARIAH Beyond Europe workshop hosted in the context of the European Commission-funded DARIAH-ERIC Sustainability Refined (DESIR) project. Previous events were held in the United States at Stanford University and the Library of Congress in 2018. The DARIAH Beyond Europe workshops aim to promote DARIAH tools and services, to initiate collaborations, and exchange knowledge and experience in digital scholarship on an international level.

Professor Jennifer Edmond, President of the DARIAH-EU Board of Directors noted, “These international DARIAH Beyond Europe workshops have enabled us to share knowledge and expertise with colleagues around the globe with the common goal of shaping infrastructures to meet the needs of humanities researchers. We are delighted to partner with our Australian colleagues on these issues of global importance and look forward to this event being the starting point of an ongoing partnership”.
