About the Event
The University of Queensland (UQ) is celebrating the outstanding achievements of UQ researchers and partnerships from 30 September to 4 October, 2024. Research infrastructure projects from our HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons are being featured in 2 events during the week.
Indigenous Data Governance: A discussion

UQ is committed to growing the opportunities for Indigenous people to lead and conduct their own research. One important strand in developing this innovative research culture is ensuring that appropriate governance is in place for Indigenous data. This event will present a panel of Indigenous researchers, data custodians and data stewards discussing current developments in this field including:
– The importance of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property concerns
– Governance of Indigenous Data Framework for the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons
– Tools and methods for data governance
The panel will include Dr Rose Barrowcliffe (Macquarie University and the Language Data Commons of Australia), Robert McLellan (The University of Queensland and the Language Data Commons of Australia) and Lesley Acres (The University of Queensland Library), and the discussion will be facilitated by Grant Sarra.
Drinks will be served after the (formal) discussion.
Showcasing the UQ HASS and Indigenous Research Infrastructure Capabilities

- Where: Room 275, Global Change Institute (20), St Lucia campus.

The session will showcase the work undertaken by UQ researchers across the various focus areas constituting the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons. It will highlight the opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaborations and industry partner engagement.
