About the Event
Join us for an engaging 2-day Environmental Indicators Initiative Co-design Workshop. The aim of the workshop is to understand the data and analytics infrastructure required to support the development and use of a range of environmental indicators, and develop a shared vision and national roadmap.
This workshop will bring together leading scientists, government environment managers and policy makers, and data experts. Invited speakers will represent a broad range of stakeholders engaged in developing and using biodiversity and ecosystem risk indicators and metrics that enable understanding of condition and trends. These include IUCN’s Red List and Green List, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), and State of Environment reporting. Speakers will highlight key challenges and share current workflows. This will be followed by group discussions focused on understanding best practices in designing and adopting robust environmental indicators, and the infrastructure and data requirements to support these.
The workshop is being run by the ARDC’s Planet Research Data Commons, which provides national-scale data infrastructure for environmental and earth science researchers, policy makers and decision makers.
This event is co-hosted by the ARDC, Atlas of Living Australia, UNSW Centre for Ecosystem Science, CSIRO, OBIS, TERN, The University of Melbourne and the Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute.
Key Topics
- Best practice methods and analytics for developing and adopting environmental indicators.
- Automating the delivery and integration of diverse environmental datasets to support indicators.
- Strengthening collaboration across research institutions and government agencies.
- Exploring indicators that can leverage technological advancements in environmental monitoring.
Who should attend?
This event is open to researchers, policymakers, data scientists, and professionals in environmental science, conservation and digital infrastructure who are interested in advancing data-driven environmental indicators.
Why attend?
- Contribute to and drive the co-design of a national roadmap for data and analytics infrastructure to support effective monitoring of ecosystems and species.
- Unlock data for research and reporting – Explore strategies for making data FAIR, machine-readable, and harmonised to streamline the use of indicators for robust, repeatable environmental reporting.
Will the sessions be recorded?
As the sessions rely on face-to-face communication and collaboration, they will not be recorded.
