About the Event
Interested in learning the core concepts behind dataspaces? Join us for a 2-day Dataspaces Fundamentals course delivered by SQS Spain, an International Data Spaces Association (IDSA)-approved training provider. While SQS regularly delivers this training internationally, this session has been scheduled at a time that is more convenient for Australian participants.
Dataspaces are revolutionising collaboration across research, industry, and government by enabling secure, controlled, and interoperable data-sharing frameworks while maintaining data sovereignty. There are currently over 140 dataspaces worldwide driving innovation, services, and research.
Course Details
- Dates: Tuesday 3 June and Wednesday 4 June
- Time: 3 to 7 PM (AEST) each day
- Cost: €400 (approximately A$700)
- Location: Online (link provided after registration)
The ARDC is coordinating registration and payment. If you’re interested, please contact Rob Clemens, Skills Development Lead (Planet Research Data Commons) at [email protected].
What the Course Covers
This in-depth course outlines the building blocks of a dataspace. Delivered through structured slide presentations, the course introduces participants to key concepts, frameworks, and components of dataspaces, without diving into specific technical implementations. Topics include:
- what is a dataspace?
- core principles
- governance structures (including required elements of a rulebook)
- technical architecture (overview of components, not technical specs)
- building blocks (business, legal, operational, functional, technical)
- interoperability layers (technical protocols, semantics, legal frameworks)
- implementation journey (key stages and supporting resources)
- trust and certification (IDSA process, secure identity, usage control)
- business models and value creation (use cases, data products, marketplaces).
This is a great opportunity to build foundational knowledge on how dataspaces work and how they can support secure, interoperable, and value-driven data sharing. This course provides a good understanding of all the components, some of which are easy to miss in the vast amount of information on dataspaces.
Who Should Participate
The course is for anyone who has seen how dataspaces are becoming a more popular way to share sensitive data in Europe and wants an in-depth understanding of the building blocks and fundamentals of dataspaces.
Interested in Dataspaces? Join the Australian Dataspaces Community
Join the Australian Dataspaces Community, a collaborative hub for individuals interested in exploring and discussing the evolving landscape of dataspaces in Australia, where you can stay up to date and participate. The community includes groups such as the Australian Dataspaces Implementers Network, which meets monthly to share and collaborate on the practical work happening in Australia. If you’re based in Australia and engaged in or have an interest in actively working on dataspace solutions, become a part of the community. Learn more and join us.
