About the Event
Australia faces challenges in sharing high-value data due to commercial, privacy and security concerns. Data providers hesitate to share, fearing loss of control over data use. Examples include limited access to environmental impact data in the Pilbara region and biosecurity researchers needing timely data access. Current data sharing mechanisms are fragmented and ineffective for supporting time-sensitive decisions. Dataspaces offers the digital infrastructures, policy and governance framework to enable this controlled data exchange based on agreed rules.
In this webinar, the ARDC will discuss their Australian Dataspaces program to develop 2 pilot projects within the Planet Research Data Commons for earth and environmental science research to adapt dataspace concepts in Australia. These pilots aim to demonstrate practical value and explore the adaptability of successful international solutions. The program will engage diverse stakeholders to design a roadmap for the broader adoption of shared data ecosystems nationwide.
