About the Event

In this webinar, Dr Vanessa Prescott of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) will talk about the AIHW’s project with the ARDC, Geography and Time-Specific Health Data for Environmental Analysis, and discuss some of the issues relating to sensitive data that needed to be considered during the project.

Supported through the ARDC’s Bushfire Data Challenges, the project involved publishing up to 20 years of weekly health service use data by Statistical Area Level 4 (SA4) geography. The data include data relevant to respiratory, cardiovascular and mental health conditions as well as other health conditions. The report includes data and visaulisations on:

  • hospitalisations
  • emergency department presentations
  • Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) service claims
  • Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and Repatriation Benefits Scheme (RPBS) prescriptions dispensed.

Speaker

Dr Vanessa Prescott is the Head of Prevention and Environmental Health Unit at the AIHW. Vanessa leads a team that monitors health determinants including climate change and the environment and how these impact the health of Australians, producing information, data and statistics on these topics.
