About the Event
Hosted by the ARDC’s Skilled Workforce Development Team, the ARDC National Skills Forum series is designed to shine a spotlight on the skills researchers need to use national research infrastructure and participate in a national research data commons.
In this installment, we’ll provide a shared space to discuss research skills takeaways from eResearch Australasia Conference 2024. The ARDC Skilled Development Workforce team and guests will recap some of the sessions they presented, and highlight sessions that caught their attention.
The eResearch Australasia Conference was a premier event for eResearch, transforming research through information technology. It offered delegates the chance to engage, connect, and share ideas on new research capabilities and how ICT technologies could enhance collaboration and data management.
Whether you attended the eResearch conference or are interested in learning more about practical takeaways, join the discussion on the research skills acquired and how they can be implemented.
Speakers
We’ll have 3 speakers who presented at the eResearch Australasia Conference:
- Nisha Ghatak, Research Communities Advisor, Training, New Zealand eScience Infrastructure, who presented:
- Kit Greenhill, Skills Development Lead, HASS and Indigenous, ARDC, who presented on eResearch Skills for HASS and Indigenous Data: What the ARDC Learned from Co-Design Workshops
- Amany Gouda-Vossos, Skills Development Lead, People, ARDC who presented Ten Simple Rules for Researchers: Upskilling for a Rapidly Evolving Workforce.
Who Should Attend
Trainers of researchers and broader stakeholders invested in data skill uplift in research should attend. These include but are not limited to:
- trainers and training managers
- research software engineers (RSEs), and NCRIS and compute facilities staff
- researchers who coach and mentor peers and colleagues
- higher-degree research (HDR) supervisors
- HDR students.
What You’ll Gain
- Enhanced understanding – by sharing and discussing their experiences, participants can better understand the key takeaways and their applications to their work
- New perspectives – hearing about others’ insights and applications can provide new perspectives and ideas that participants might not have considered
- Skill reinforcement – revisiting and discussing what was learned can reinforce new skills and knowledge, making it more likely that participants will effectively apply them in their work
