The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) provides Australian researchers with access to national research data collections, cloud computing, platforms and digital research skills training.

For over 10 years, we have been supporting Australian earth and environmental sciences researchers as they tackle big challenges for our planet, from fighting climate change to saving threatened species and reversing ecosystem deterioration.

How We Support Earth and Environmental Science Reseacrhers

Associate Professor Rachael Gallagher used AusTraits, a database developed with co-investment from the ARDC, to inform the prioritisation of recovery actions and national-scale conservation planning following the 2019/20 megafires.

“There’s so much to learn, and there’s such a big gap between working on your laptop or home computer and using a supercomputer – and the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud fills that gap perfectly. [HDRs and ECRs] need something that can work as if you’re on a laptop but has the grunt of a bigger machine. Nectar allows for this transition.”
