New Capability for Linking Industry and Research

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) has recently received funding from the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) to create Research Link Australia, a ‘one-stop’ shop to link industry and research.

Currently, there is no easy way for Australian businesses, policymakers and citizens to find and access research expertise, research conclusions and research products. Similarly, there is no simple way for researchers to identify industry research and development opportunities.

Connecting Australian researchers and business will help researchers and innovators find the people and resources they need to address some of the most pressing problems facing society, like climate change, food and energy security.

Research Link Australia will bridge this gap by providing a critical link between industry and research. It will leverage the ARDC’s Research Data Australia, an online portal for finding research data and associated projects, researchers and services from over 100 Australian institutions.

“Information about research and innovation is all in the public domain. However, it’s not joined up in any coherent national way. Working collaboratively with both sectors, the ARDC can bring to the table an ongoing national information infrastructure capability,” said Mrs Rosie Hicks, CEO of the ARDC.

The ARDC will use a co-design approach to building Research Link Australia with peak bodies, key data agencies and the business and research communities.

A minimum viable product of Research Link Australia will be released by the end of 2023.
