Since our last update in July, we’ve made enormous progress towards establishing the focus areas for the HASS and Indigenous Research Data Commons (RDC). We’ve now achieved joint resourcing of more than $48 million over the coming 4 years in partnership with research institutions, non-governmental organisations and government.

We’re pleased to announce that 2 of our HASS and Indigenous RDC focus areas have entered their second phase:

We also announced the launch of a new focus area, the Australian Internet Observatory.

Two more focus areas are currently in contracting, and will be announced in due course:

  • Australian Creative Histories and Futures
  • Social Science Research Infrastructure Network.

In the coming months, we will conduct a co-design process to develop a new project plan for the ARDC Community Data Lab, our sixth focus area for the HASS and Indigenous RDC. Stay tuned for more updates.

Registrations open soon for the 2025 ARDC HASS and Indigenous RDC Summer School

On 28 October 2024, we’ll be opening registrations for our 2025 HASS and Indigenous RDC Summer School. In its third year, the summer school is an annual event for researchers and Indigenous data custodians to gain hands-on experience and learn digital research skills. It will be held from 3 to 6 February 2025 in Meanjin/Brisbane. Stay tuned for an email from me on the 28th announcing the opening of registrations [NOTE 28/10: Registrations are now open!]. In the meantime, find out what happened at the 2024 summer school.

National Digital Research Infrastructure (NDRI) Strategy

Following the recent release of the National Digital Research Infrastructure (NDRI) Strategy by the Australian Government Department of Education, the ARDC, our partners and the research community are engaging with the Working Group via the NDRI targeted discussions. I was involved in the targeted discussions on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples NDRI and NDRI for Humanities, Social Sciences and GLAM. The research community is encouraged to contribute to the consultations via a survey, which seeks input on the key issues for Australia’s NDRI ecosystem. It’s open until 24 October 2024 – learn more.
